Five tests before you sign with anyone
Every ranking of law firm AI search agencies we could find was written by one of the agencies in it. First Page Sage’s list ranks First Page Sage first. AEO Engine’s guide ranks AEO Engine first, and the LawFuel list that ranks for the same search is filed as a press release with AEO Engine as its source. This piece is written by an agency too, so instead of a ranking it gives you five tests, applies them to the agencies you will meet, and applies them to us.
Ask for a prompt-level audit of your own market before you sign. The agency should show you the actual questions your clients ask, which engines it ran them on, and which firms are named today, from a logged-out browser. If the first thing you see is a generic deck, the second thing you see will be generic work.
Ask for tracking by engine, daily. In our own data the same firm holds 55% share of voice on ChatGPT, 57% on Gemini and 21% on Google AI Overviews, because each engine reads different sources. A blended “AI visibility” score hides exactly the gap you are paying to close.
Ask what they change besides your content. The engines name firms from directories, from New York’s own court and government pages, from YouTube and social, and from your site. An agency that only writes blog posts is working on one of four source groups.
Ask how results reach signed cases. Traffic growth percentages are easy to produce from a small base. The number that matters is visits from AI answers matched to intake and then to retained matters, which needs analytics access and a monthly reconciliation with your intake team.
Ask for named, dated results with the method published: the baseline, the end point, the time frame and the competitor set. If a published case study has a headline percentage and no baseline, you cannot tell whether it moved from one answer to ten or from a hundred to a thousand.
The agencies you will meet, in their own words
What follows is what each agency says about itself in its own published material, as of October 2026. We have not worked with any of them, and we have not verified their claims. Where a claim comes from a list the agency wrote, we say so.
First Page Sage. Describes itself as the first to offer GEO as a service. For law firms it builds credibility through PR-style placements on third-party sites, plus practice-area pages, attorney bios, FAQs and LegalService and Attorney schema. Publishes its own ranking of law firm GEO agencies, which places it first and uses weighted criteria (notable clients 20%, AI citation results 15%, legal experience 15%, reviews 15%). No prices published.
AEO Engine. Programmatic, AEO-structured content organised by legal question, location and service, with a measurement loop that checks whether pages appear in AI responses. Its guide to ChatGPT SEO agencies for lawyers ranks it first and reports client results of 920% average traffic growth and conversions from AI traffic at nine times the comparison level. Scope-based proposals, no public rate. The LawFuel “13 leading AI search agencies” list credits AEO Engine as its source.
Rankings.io. A personal injury and mass tort SEO specialist with an “AI Search (AIO)” offering. Its published case study for a Midwest personal injury firm describes GA4 referral tracking, Avvo question answering by the attorney, plain-language answers on the site and an llms.txt file, with a headline of +992% ChatGPT visibility and signed cases confirmed by the firm. The baseline, end point and time frame behind the percentage are not published.
Legal Guardian Digital. Content restructuring and entity optimisation to get firms cited by AI tools, with a selective client roster and founder oversight of each campaign. First Page Sage’s list describes its services as pricey.
Genevate. Founded in 2025 by a New York PR strategist. Combines citation-building with earned media so firms can shape how AI tools describe them.
Focus Digital. Serves solo and small firms, pairing longer-term GEO with Google Ads for faster inquiries. Positioned as budget-conscious with a deliberately narrow scope.
iLawyer Marketing. A GEO platform covering content mapping, local GEO and citation building, with tests of whether firms are recommended for target queries. Largely automated, which First Page Sage’s list notes can miss local nuance.
Grow Law and PaperStreet. Legal marketing agencies that have added a generative engine optimisation service alongside web, SEO and content. PaperStreet works only with law firms.
Consultwebs, Scorpion and Hennessey Digital. Established legal marketing and SEO providers listed by AEO Engine as offering AI SEO or AI visibility add-ons, with custom pricing. AEO Engine’s own guide advises buyers to confirm the AI monitoring separately for each.
How SourceNode compares
SourceNode is a managed service, not an SEO agency with an AI add-on and not a dashboard. Against the five tests above, this is what we do and what we do not.
We start with the audit. Before a contract we run your clients’ questions, for your cities, on ChatGPT, Gemini and Google AI Overviews, and show you who is named today and which pages each engine used. We track by engine, daily, and report weekly by engine and by stage of the client’s journey. We work on all four source groups: your own pages and structured data, the directories and review sites, the state and court sources the engines quote, and the video and social layer that AI Overviews depend on. We match visits from AI answers to intake and to retained matters with your team every month.
Our published result is named and dated. William Mattar Law Offices, a New York motor vehicle accident firm, moved from 4.6% to 47.2% share of voice in three months against 13 tracked competitors on the same 111 questions, from fourth in the category to first, and holds 48.4% in the most recent 30 days. The baseline, the competitor set, the method and the limits are on our results page, and the source data behind it is in who AI engines trust when someone asks for a car accident lawyer in New York.
What we do not do: website redesigns, paid search, social media management, or guaranteed placement in any engine. If you need those, one of the agencies above is the better call, and we work alongside existing agencies without friction because we change sources, not rankings.
Questions for the first call, and sources
Five questions for the first call with any agency on this list, including us: Which of my clients’ questions did you run, on which engines, and what did they say about my firm this week? Which sources did each engine use, and which of those can you change? How will you report share of voice and visibility by engine, and how often? How will AI referrals be matched to signed cases, and who reconciles that with intake? What is the baseline, end point, time frame and competitor set behind your best published result?
If you want the answers for your firm before you talk to anyone, the law firms page explains how an engagement runs and a call gets you the audit.
