Why SourceNode
Why businesses choose SourceNode
SourceNode manages your business’s identity for AI search, and measures the work in revenue rather than in mentions. Our team reads what ChatGPT, Google AI Overviews, Gemini, Claude, Copilot and Perplexity say about a business every day, traces each claim to the source behind it, corrects those sources, earns placement in the ones the models cite, and matches the AI referrals that follow to leads and signed business. This page sets out how that differs from an SEO agency, from an AI visibility tool and from running it in-house, and what we can show for it.
How is this different from SEO?
Search engine optimisation works on rank: which page appears in a list of links for a keyword. AI search does not return a list. It returns one answer, assembled from a handful of sources the model retrieved, and most of those sources are not the business’s own website.
In our own tracking of 4,222 answers in one category, the third-party sources carrying the client produced 18,742 retrievals against 4,319 from the client’s own site: roughly four times as many. Optimising a page for rank does not change what a model says when the claim it repeats came from a directory listing or a review profile that says something else. We work on every source the models read, and treat the business’s own site as one of six.
How is this different from an AI visibility tool?
A visibility tool tells you what the models say. That is the first step, and we run our own daily tracking across every major model to do it. The difference is what happens next.
A dashboard hands the problem back to you as a chart. Our team does the work the chart implies: rewriting the pages, correcting the facts wherever they live, publishing the answers your customers ask for, and claiming or fixing the third-party sources the models cite. We report the same numbers a tool reports, and alongside them what we changed to move each one.
Can a business do this in-house?
Yes, and we publish our method in full so a team can. What it takes is someone running the prompt set on every model on a schedule, reading each answer against a verified fact set, and chasing the source behind every wrong claim.
Most teams manage the first audit. Few keep it running, because AI answers change as sources change and competitors publish. We run it as a managed service on a monthly retainer: our team decides what to change and why, and our agents do the daily reading, the re-checks and the measurement that make it continuous.
How does SourceNode measure revenue from AI search?
Most work in this category stops at mentions. We treat a mention as the start of the measurement, not the end. Every answer that names a business is traced through to the visit it produced, the page that visitor landed on, and whether they became a lead and then a customer.
That matters because AI referrals behave differently from search traffic: there are fewer of them and they arrive later in the decision, because the comparing already happened inside the answer. Published measurements put their value at 4.4 times a traditional organic visit (Semrush, July 2025), and Adobe Analytics measured AI-referred retail traffic converting 54% better than other channels by May 2026. We report share of voice, visibility and position by model and by stage of the customer journey, and match AI referrals to leads and revenue.
What has SourceNode produced?
In our average engagement, share of voice moves from single digits to first place in the category within three months.
The engagement we have documented in full ran for William Mattar Law Offices, a New York motor vehicle accident firm, against 14 tracked competitors, on the same 60 customer questions throughout. Share of voice moved from 4.6% to 47.2%, visibility from 2.4% to 23.3%, and position from fourth of fourteen to first, over three months. The month-by-month log of what was changed and what each change moved is published in our research.
Who does the work?
SourceNode was founded by Alex Merutka, co-founder and CEO, and Odin Lund, co-founder and COO. The work is run by the founders with our agents: our team decides what to change and why, and our agents do the daily reading, the re-checks and the measurement that keep it current.
We work with clients in the United States and Europe, in categories where customers ask AI before they buy: law firms, financial and advisory firms, B2B software companies, retailers and consumer brands, marketplaces and platforms, and agencies that want to offer the service to their own clients.
What does SourceNode publish about its own method?
We publish our research on how AI models choose which businesses to name, from our own daily tracking rather than from opinion. The primary data set is 60 customer questions across 14 competing firms on ChatGPT, Gemini and Google AI Overviews, which produced 4,222 answers and a citation record for each in the 30 days to 17 September 2026.
We also maintain our own AI fingerprint in the open, and publish what we keep, where each fact lives and whether it is verified. Every claim on this site is either measured by us or attributed to a named source with a date. We do not quote a timeline or a result we cannot source.
How does an engagement start?
Tell us the business and the category. We run your customers’ questions on every major model and show you what they say today, which sources produced each claim, and what we would change first.
SourceNode is a managed service on a monthly retainer. The first weeks map the AI fingerprint: what is accurate, wrong and missing across every source the models read. The work then proceeds highest impact first, and it continues, because the answers move as sources move.
