The tracker runs daily and these figures move. The date above is the date to quote.
Which sources each engine reads
ChatGPT, New York car accident questions: nycourts.gov retrieved in 28% of answers, ny.gov in 27%, nysenate.gov in 15%, the state bar in 9%. Firms were then named from directories: Avvo in 15% of answers, Justia 11%, Expertise 9%, lawyers.com 9%, Super Lawyers 9%. The firm we manage was retrieved in 15% of answers, more than any competitor, and cited four times per answer on average.
Gemini: the firm’s own site led at 15% of answers, Super Lawyers followed at 6%, then individual firm sites at 3% to 6% each. Gemini cites a retrieved page two to four times, so a firm whose own pages are retrieved gets most of the credit.
Google AI Overviews: YouTube retrieved in 23% of answers, more than any other source. Competitor firm sites at 10% to 19% each, then Facebook 6%, Reddit 5%, Instagram 5%. Directories mattered far less here, Avvo 5% and Justia 6%, and government sources appeared in only 7% of answers.
Published 18 October 2026 from the 9,049-answer set above.
The 111 questions
51 ask the engine to find or recommend a lawyer, 26 ask how a claim works in New York, 10 ask whether hiring a lawyer is worth it, 8 ask the engine to compare firms, 16 ask about a named firm. Within the 51: truck and commercial vehicle 9, motorcycle 8, pedestrian and bus 7, rideshare 2, car accident by city 12, and the rest by injury or circumstance.
